THE UNIVERSAL RULES OF CIVILIZED DISCOURSE
“Do to others whatever you would like them to do to you.” —Matthew 7:12b (NLT)
This space is intended to be safe and respectful. In other words: Don’t be a jerk. Don’t be creepy. We’re a nice neighborhood, so be nice.
This is a Public Place
Please treat this place as you would any other public place, such as church or a neighborhood coffee shop or park. We are a community of humans sharing the same space together, so let’s choose respect and kindness in the way we talk to each other.
Improve the Discussion
Help improve discussions by adding valuable stories, examples, insights, and questions. If you’re not sure if your post will add to the discussion, stop and think it over a bit before you do. The things we discuss here matter deeply to people, so be kind of and aware of others’ hearts and how their life circumstances may be quite different to yours.
Be Kind, Even if You Disagree
Civil disagreement is OK, but please try to criticize statements/beliefs only—not people. Bullying, name-calling, insulting, hateful speech and the like will NOT be tolerated, whether it’s against other members of the community or other groups. Those words don’t add any value to the conversation.
Your Participation Counts!
We have lots of ways to participate here, and your participation will help this community grow and bring more value to the place. Please try using the favorites, bookmarks, likes, flags, replies, edits, and such. These tools are here to improve your own experience, and everyone else’s too.
Let’s try to leave our neighborhood better than we found it. ![]()
If You See a Problem, FLAG IT
Mods and admins are here to help, but we only have so many eyes. This is your neighborhood too, so you can take responsibility as well. With your help, we can keep this space safe and respectful for the whole community.
If you see bad behavior, do NOT reply or acknowledge it. (Feeding trolls is never recommended.) Engaging with posters looking for trouble is a waste of your energy and time. Just FLAG IT.
Mods and admins will keep an eye on accumulated flags and deal with it. We reserve the right to remove any user’s content without notice or warnings for any reason at any time.
Always Be Kind & Respectful
Nothing silences the room like someone being a jerk or being creepy. So things like offensive, abusive, or hateful content are not welcome.
- Do not post obscene or explicit content.
- Do not use offensive language.
- Do not harass or grief anyone or expose their personal information.
- Do not post someone else’s intellectual property and claim it as your own.
- Do not post spam or otherwise be a vandal in our neighborhood.
Since this is a public forum, search engines will be crawling these discussions, so keep words, images, and videos safe for family and friends of ALL ages.
Keep the Neighborhood Clean
This is a big place, so let’s try to keep things nice and tidy. Then we can spend more time talking with one another and less time having to clean up messes.
- Choose appropriate categories for new topics.
- Do not cross-post the same topic in multiple categories.
- When you reply, add meaningful content to your post. (No blank or single emoji posts.)
- Stay on topic within a thread. If you want to drastically change direction, use “Reply as a New Topic.”
When considering a new topic, use the search feature to see if someone has already posted about it. You might be able to just jump into an existing conversation.
